We are proud that Strategic Group is a major donor to the YYC Food Security Fund this winter. Through our sponsorship, more than 200 people will receive locally sourced holiday meals.
The YYC Food Security Fund is partnering with Fresh Routes to create and distribute holiday meal kits that feature local meats and vegetables from YYC Growers. The holiday dinner box program will ensure that Calgarians and neighbours in regional Indigenous communities have all the ingredients for a healthy, home-cooked meal through a barrier-free, pay-what-you-want system.
“A proper meal, especially during the holidays, is important for the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and—frankly—our entire community,” said Riaz Mamdani, CEO of Strategic Group.
“When people are facing food emergencies, the hampers they can receive from well-meaning organizations can be too prescriptive or basic,” added Mr. Mamdani. “The dignity-based approach that we see in this project does not require proof of need or the collection of personal information, and it acknowledges that a ‘one-size-fits-all’ food hamper is not the right fit for everyone who is struggling to access food. Helping people acquire quality food and dine with dignity, especially in periods of difficulty, is a worthwhile endeavour. I applaud all the hard work of the many volunteers involved in this project.”
As a locally focused food security initiative, every dollar raised is reinvested back into the local economy by supporting local farmers and non-profits committed to creating food security. For every dollar donated, nearly six dollars’ worth of value is created right here at home.
While Strategic Group has made a significant contribution to help launch the project, everyone is welcome to contribute what they can to help feed even more neighbours in need. We hope you can join us and donate now to this important program. Beyond this special holiday project, the YYC Food Security Fund will continue to support a similar project into the new year with pay-what-you-want markets throughout Calgary.
Together, we can make sure many hundreds of our fellow citizens can access healthy food and dine with dignity this holiday season.
